World Cup semi finalists almost decided
ByAs the Super Eights winds down, the semi finalists are all but determined and is anyone really surprised?
With South Africa’s win over the West Indies earlier today, a big gap has opened between the top and bottom four teams in the Super Eights. Currently at the top of the table are New Zealand and Australia with eight points, followed by Sri Lanka and South Africa with six points, the Irish have no points and England, West Indies and Bangladesh have two. Seems fairly obvious who will be going through to the semi finals.
Since the top four are all but decided, the only question left is who will play whom in the semi finals. From my perspective Australia are likely to go through as top qualifier, likely finishing unbeaten, with South Africa and New Zealand finishing in second and third place. This means Australia will play Sri Lanka in one semi final, while South Africa plays New Zealand in the other.
Of course with the absurdly long World Cup schedule the semi finals are a long way off and this has been a World Cup of upsets so far.
