Williams sent home from Blues

Posted by Hamish McBrearty on May 7th, 2007

It looks like we’ve found the reason Ali Williams hasn’t been getting a lot of game time for the Blues.

Apparently persistent behaviour issues have caused Blues management to send home the All Black lock ahead of their semi final against the Sharks in Durban. After a meeting between Blues management and senior players the decision was made to send Williams home after the team had arrived in South Africa when more information about his antics came to light during the flight.

Blues management has stated that Williams ignored four separate warnings while the team was in Australia about late night drinking and a lack of respect for team management. North Harbour lock Anthony Boric has been flown in as a replacement.

This is not the first time that Williams has had disciplinary problems, although in the past they have been for on the field incidents. He served a six week suspension in 2005 after being sent off when he stomped on Ritchie McCaw’s head.

With Williams already lacking game time and now seemingly a locker room liability, New Zealand’s already depleted second row stocks have dropped even further.
