An interesting statistic was posted by Rugby News Service on the Rugby World Cup site that makes for some quite interesting reading.
Most tries at a single Rugby World Cup
|
No. |
Player |
Team |
Year |
| 8 | Bryan Habana | RSA | 2007 |
| 8 | Jonah Lomu | NZL | 1999 |
| 7 | Marc Ellis | NZL | 1995 |
| 7 | Jonah Lomu | NZL | 1995 |
| 7 | Doug Howlett | NZL | 2003 |
| 7 | Mils Muliaina | NZL | 2003 |
| 7 | Drew Mitchell | AUS | 2007 |
| 6 | Craig Green | NZL | 1987 |
| 6 | John Kirwan | NZL | 1987 |
| 6 | David Campese | AUS | 1991 |
| 6 | Jean-Baptiste Lafond | FRA | 1991 |
| 6 | Jeff Wilson | NZL | 1999 |
| 6 | Joe Rokocoko | NZL | 2003 |
| 6 | Doug Howlett | NZL | 2007 |
| 6 | Shane Williams | WAL | 2007 |
Of the 15 names on that list, ten of them are All Blacks and only two of them have winners’ medals: John Kirwan and Craig Green. So eight of the top 15 try scoring performances at a single Rugby World Cup have been by All Blacks in failed campaigns. Says quite a lot really.
